How Big is Small?: Micro Technologies has received more than $1 billion in federal contracts, a third of it through programs reserved for small firms owned by minorities or service-disabled veterans, federal records show. Competitors have complained that the company is too big to be considered a small business and eligible for government preferences. The Washington Post investigates. Hip Settlement: Johnson & Johnson has tentatively agreed to a settlement that could reach up to $4 billion to resolve thousands of lawsuits filed by patients injured by a flawed all-metal replacement hip, The New York Times reports. Coffee Fight: An arbitrator ordered Starbucks Corp. to pay $2.76 billion to settle a dispute with Mondelez International Inc., formerly known as Kraft Foods Inc., over the coffee-shop chain's bagged-coffee business, Bloomberg reports. Round Two: Lawyers for rivals Apple Inc. and South Korea-based Samsung Electronics Co. were scheduled to deliver opening statements Wednesday in a San Jose courtroom in a trial to determine how much Samsung owes Apple for copying vital iPhone and iPad features, the Associates Press reports. Worked to Death: An Ohio man whose wife died in a car accident earlier this year is suing the hospital where she was a nurse, claiming she was "worked to death," and that the hospital knew about it, CNN reports.
