Call for Papers – Oxford Human Rights Hub

The Oxford Human Rights Hub is pleased to announce a call for papers for a major global conference on Women and Poverty: A Human Rights Perspective to be held in Kigali, Rwanda on April 28-30, 2014.

This conference will bring together and foster a network among leading academics in various disciplines, legal practitioners, prominent local, regional and international NGOs, human rights bodies, governmental officials, doctoral students and early career researchers working in poverty, gender equality and human rights.

We now invite submissions for additional paper proposals the role of human rights law in relation to the following key issues:

1.    Women and Poverty: A human rights approach

2.    Gender, Poverty and Internally Displaced Persons: A Human Rights Approach

3.    Gender Equality and the Right to Development

4.    The Challenge of Poverty and Intersectional Identities

5.    Women and Economic Development: The Promise of Corporate Social Responsibility

6.    Women and Work: Labour and Social Security

7.    The Interaction of Women, Poverty and Customary Law

8.    Exploring the Potential of Socio-economic Rights to Remedy Women's Poverty

9.     Future Developments in research into the role of human rights law in relation to women and poverty.

We are particularly keen to encourage the participation of doctoral and post-doctoral researchers, as well as early career lecturers, and have set aside time for discussion of research in progress.

To propose a paper presentation at the conference, please submit an abstract of no more than 500 words to the Oxford Human Rights Hub at oxfordhumanrightshub@law.ox.ac.uk by December 1st, 2013.

Abstracts should include full contact details, including your name, department, institutional affiliation, mailing address, and e-mail address. State the title of the stream to which you are submitting your abstract.

Please note that we are only able to offer a limited amount of funding to support the travel costs of speakers with accepted papers. Please make all efforts to secure alternative funding.
