The Morning Wrap

Settlement: J.P. Morgan is in settlement talks with regulators and the price tag is climbing, possibly as high as $11 billion. The bigger price tag comes after U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder rejected the bank's proposed $3 billion settlement. Debt Default: Senate and House republicans are flirting with the idea of allowing the country to default on its debt in an effort to curtail the funds which would fund Obamacare. This comes a day after Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) used the threat of a government shutdown to defund Obamacare. Politico reports. Patents: Boston University filed 30 patent infringement cases in Boston federal court which target tech companies, including Canon and Microsoft. The National Law Journal's Sheri Qualters reports. Financial Squeeze: Al Shabaab's attack on the Kenyan shopping mall will likely lead to counter-terrorism agencies putting the squeeze on them financially. Reuters reports.
