Sutherland Snags Five Lawyers from Dow Lohnes

By Alex Zank Sutherland Asbill & Brennan recently took on five new attorneys from Dow Lohnes to grow its presence in the technology, media and telecom industries, according to a statement released by the firm. Bill Dudzinsky Jr., Michael Hepburn and Paul Lang are joining as partners. Meredith O'Leary is serving as counsel and Andrea Gehman joins as senior attorney. Dudzinsky in an interview said that joining Sutherland offered him and his cohorts a compelling opportunity. "Sutherland has a great practice," he said. "It was complementary to what we were doing. We saw a great opportunity to build on what we have." Dudzinsky focuses on corporate transactions; Hepburn, Lang, O'Leary and Gehman specialize in compensation, employment and benefits issues. In a statement, W. Mark Smith, who heads the firm's employee benefits and executive compensation practice, said, "Sutherland has long advised leading cable and telecommunications companies on their tax and benefits matters, and these lawyers enhance our tax and benefits services while expanding our range of industry service across all facets of transactional work, employment law and litigation." The team is bringing over some of their old clients, according to Dudzinsky. To keep up with rapid changes in the media and telecommunications industries, Dudzinsky said that one has to be fully immersed in the field. "At Sutherland you're in the middle of it," he said.
