Following Cameron Kerry's departure as the U.S. Commerce Department's general counsel Thursday, President Barack Obama has yet to fill the vacancy with an acting appointee or send a nominee for the post to the U.S. Senate for confirmation. But Fredericks, a veteran Commerce lawyer, isn't the department's acting GC—a post that requires a presidential appointment. Fredericks, who started at Commerce in 1990 as the assistant GC for administration, previously served as acting GC in 2009 before Kerry's arrival at the department in May of that year.
