FTC Lawyer to Join Arnold & Porter's Antitrust Group

A former top lawyer in the Federal Trade Commission's competition bureau is joining Arnold & Porter as a partner in the antitrust group. Peter Levitas, formerly deputy director of the FTC Bureau of Competition, has worked on investigations in the healthcare, pharmaceutical and technology industries. His last day at the FTC was Friday. He starts October 7 at Arnold & Porter. Levitas was a senior FTC official involved in the discussions with Intel and Google to resolve antitrust investigations. Before joining the FTC, Levitas was a trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice's Antitrust Division. He is also the former staff director and chief counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee's subcommittee on antitrust, competition policy and consumer rights. In an interview, Levitas said healthcare, intellectual property and merger antitrust work would likely remain strong. "There are a lot of complex issues that arise in a zone where antitrust and intellectual property meet," Levitas said. "I think we're going to continue to see a lot of action in the future."
