With less than six months to go before the Obama administration officially unveils a voluntary cybersecurity framework for utilities and other critical infrastructure companies, former Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Jane Lute said Wednesday that all businesses are at risk from cyber attacks and shouldn't ignore their dangers. Speaking at Venable's Washington, D.C., office, Lute—who was a key adviser on the cybersecurity framework before she left the Department of Homeland Security this spring—said questions about the threats from cyber attacks aren't "theoretical." The former No. 2 official at DHS is now the president and chief executive officer of the Council on Cybersecurity, a Washington-based nonprofit organization she founded this year to help improve Internet security. "Everyone's at risk," Lute said. "I think we're well past the stage of saying, 'Have you heard of the word "cybersecurity"? Do you understand that you are vulnerable?'
