Applications for the 2014 Workshop of the Institute for Global Law and Policy, Qatar, Doha

IGLP: The Workshop, which will be held in Qatar, Doha, from 3-11 January 2014, is an intensive residential program designed for doctoral and post-doctoral scholars and junior faculty. This initiative aims to promote innovative ideas and alternative approaches to issues of global law, economic policy, and social justice in the aftermath of the economic crisis. The IGLP is now accepting applications for the 2014 workshop, the deadline being September 15, 2013.

Each year IGLP: The Workshop brings over 100 doctoral, post-doctoral scholars, and junior faculty together in Doha, Qatar with a core group of senior IGLP faculty from around the world for a unique series of lectures and intensive interdisciplinary debates.

While in residence in Doha, participants review current scholarly developments, reconsider canonical texts and network with colleagues from across the world. Intensive writing workshops offer participants the opportunity to receive valuable feedback on their own research from their peers and more senior colleagues in small group settings. Qatar offers a perfect location for convening scholars from countries outside the north Atlantic area, allowing us to focus on recent developments in the region and to benefit from synergies with intellectual and cultural activities already underway in Education City.

The Workshop seeks ways to deepen the network of collaboration among our Workshop Alumni as well as invigorate our core program with new participants and themes. In 2014 we will focus new attention on comparative law as a constituent part of global policy and legal practice, on the potential to renew the Arab tradition of law and governance, and on the modern significance of the Islamic legal tradition.
